Jon Wand – Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon


Mr Wand has over 20 years’ experience of helping people, using the latest proven techniques with injuries and conditions of their shoulders and elbows. He provides a comprehensive and carefully personalised service for all of his patients.

Mr Wand qualified in medicine in 1977 and undertook his post-graduate surgical training in London and Ipswich before specialising in Orthopaedics. He has worked in a number of hospitals including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, The Westminster Hospital, University College Hospital and Great Ormond Street, during this time he developed a sub-speciality interest in shoulder and elbow surgery.

In 1991 he became an accredited specialist in orthopaedic surgery and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Cheltenham General Hospital. Today he holds the post of Shoulder and Elbow Lead Consultant for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust, alongside his private practice at Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital.

Mr. Wand has a particular interest in minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures. He has written a number of papers on orthopaedic topics and osteoporosis.


One Stop Clinic

Mr. Wand leads the ‘One Stop Shoulder and Elbow Clinic’ at Cobalt, Cheltenham. All within a single visit and a few hours, the service provides:

  • A full consultation with Mr. Wand
  • Any medical diagnostic imaging that is required (X-ray, MRI Scan, Ultrasound or CT Scan)
  • Immediate reporting by a musculoskeletal specialist consultant radiologist jointly with Mr. Wand
  • A follow up with the findings discussed and reviewed with Mr. Wand
  • A treatment plan

Cobalt’s unique Imaging Centre in Cheltenham provides state of the art diagnostic imaging services, including high resolution 3.0 Tesla MRI, High Field Open MRI, CT, PET/CT, X-Ray and Ultrasound. The centre is conveniently located near the centre of town with plenty of free parking.

In the event of surgery being required this will be carried out at Nuffield Health Cheltenham Hospital or as a private patient case at Cheltenham General Hospital.
